West Street Gallery is proud to announce “Blue Mango Moqueca,” an exhibition of collaborative drawings by Rita Ackermann, G.T. Pellizzi and Daniel Turner, executed as the artists traveled through Brazil. Collaboration is an essential part of each artist’s practice. In this series, the artists’ various marks were layered, but scrambled to transgress the territorial boundaries of the traditional “exquisite corpse.” Executed using paint, pastels, watercolors and charcoal, the images morph into landscapes, and delirious hybrids of scribbles and notes. The works follow encounters with the mangrove, the jungle, islands, and the sea.

The show is titled after a Brazilian seafood stew whose traditional origins date back some 300 years. It consists of the guts of other meals—fish, onions, garlic, tomatoes, cilantro—and it cooks slowly.

Thanks to: Sarina Basta, and Geraldine Belmont, the founder of local NGO Yonic, who provided recycled paper for this project. A portion of the proceeds go to Yonic.
